Malakai's Current Literary Picks
I've created a book worm
I love books. I hoard books and now, my son does too! We enjoy reading together especially at bed time. While we adore our collection of literary treasures there are a few that Malakai always seems to go back to lately. Here are his current picks
If I had to guess as to why Malakai loves rereading about Jolene's adventures it would be the mentions of all of the sweet treats she loves to overindulge in. This mama likes it because of the mentions of healthy food and making better choices. It's a win-win really! The story is captivating and the illustrations are so fun. No spoiler alert needed, I'm not going to give away to much but I will say we loved the fact that there were even smoothie recipes included in the book. It made it come to life and Malakai was so excited about making the smoothies together.
The lesson in this story gives the child the power to decide to make better food choices, it really puts it in their hands and makes healthy eating fun and practical without bashing junk food entirely. The reader is learning why they should make better choices as to what they put in their bodies. Again, I don't want to give away too much. Pick up a copy.
Try this yummy recipe that's featured in Jolene Adventures of a Junk Food Queen
In my search for books by Latino authors I came across this gem. This one happens to be written in English and in Spanish which is such a great added bonus to this beautiful story. Grandpa cooked his hand-made tortilla just a tad long and now his nietos are sure they see pictures in the burnt markings on this 'magic tortilla'. It's imaginative and sweet, and I love that it ties in with our hispanic roots. It's one I'm happy to read and we are already looking into other books written by the author Demetria Martinez.

Ok, so this always makes me laugh because it's not Christmas. Not even close and yet we've been reading this book at least once a day since I ordered it a month ago. It is a precious book about a toy lamb who finds adventure in Santa's big bag on Christmas Eve, so I don't mind too much. I love the fact that Malakai loves Christmas so much so I indulge him. Christmas movies, songs and books- He's about it all year long. I can't complain, it's my favorite as well. This book is the perfect gift on the first day of Christmas to read all December, or if your kid is like mine, year round!
We are always looking for new children's book, What are some of your favorites?
